Watching the second episode of Tribal Wives on BBC 2 and must say whole heartedly agree with Karen (Bopo) these people live in a much better and more correct enviromentally friendly manner than we do in the UK.

They have every right to protect their forest from loggers IMHO.

Brings to mind something I commented on on my MySpace blog concerning Bruce Parry and his The Tribe series and the people of another rain forest

Oh I love this program and Bruce Parry's Tribe it really makes you think how simpler life could be working for the whole of the community, not wondering how much your next bill is going to cost.

But one thing I cannot for the life of me understand is why if you enjoyed your time so much with a tribe and found new relationships, why oh why would you say you'll probably never go back?

Surely you would make the effort to return having had the experience of a life time and having formed such great relationships

It's so interesting to see how other people live and who don't worry about their size or being fashionable, paying bills, oh the list is endless.

They definitely have something very special partly from working as a whole, for each other and not only looking out for themselves.

It's a life we have not known of in nearly a thousand years here in the UK MissTVWorlds.

I expect there will still be those that think it's OK to destroy their rain forest - but you know my theory on Acacia Tress Elephants and combatting the desertification of many regions so I am a little biased in my views RE conservation.

I am a little confused by Karen as she said she would visit with her family and then said she would not be returning?

The way these people only use one leaf from a tree to thatch their dwellings shows these people have a a deeper understanding of their environment than we seem to have here in the UK IMHO.

I was glad to read that Google is helping a tribe in The Amazon rain forest, Amazon Chief Almir Surui of the Surui tribe appealed to Google for help after five years of fighting with the loggers who are threatening to destroy their home.

The Surui will use Google Earth for quality satellite images that will allow the tribe to monitor loggers, who have no legal right to touch the tribe's 600,000-acre reserve.

Google Earth's spokesperson Megan Quinn said "The Amazon rain forest and its indigenous peoples are disappearing rapidly, which has serious consequences both locally and globally."

"This project can raise global awareness of the Surui people's struggle to preserve their land and culture by reaching more than 200 million Google Earth users around the world."

Only in last night's program the tribes chief said they worked hard to preserve their traditions and the outsiders were threatening that, so when he said many of his people had been killed fighting against such people he was well within his rights to say they would also kill to stop the loggers.

I am presently not The Worlds "leading expert" on Law MissTVWorlds but I can not see any argument that realistically stands up against these stances - well not unless you would like to destroy this world and any chance of success for life on any other world/planet.

Well this weeks tribal wives is a bit odd not sure what to make of it Yvonne the woman who is staying with the Himba tribe seems really grumpy and I'm not sure why she is there.

The Himba women seem unable to see why Yvonne is upset yet they are continualy laughing at her, so its no wonder, one of the women even said we are all laughing at her.

It's troubling to see a girl of 13 being physically dragged to her wedding as Yvonne commented, the girl had also previously ran away from two other marriages she seriously didn't want to get married.

Ha Ha the chiefs said she would be a good wife and they like her now, as in they didn't before because she cried a lot, she does seem to have lightened up towards the end.

Didn't enjoy this one as much as the others as the tribe seemed to do everything so differently that Yvonne couldn't grasp any of it, shame cause I don't think she got as much from it as the previous two ladies.

I didn't catch much of it/this episode as was busy reading researching and guaging the hang on some things on the net but from what I saw it/that place sounds horrid/terrible when it comes to a place to live!

I agree MissTV WOrlds, I dodn't like this one as much as the first 2. Yvonne seemed to be unable to let go of her hang ups. But they didnt help to begin with either by laughing at her , when she must have felt very vunerable.

Very interesting shows and I hope that they make a few people think about their own values. The tribes do have it very hard and all is not rosy ther either , but they values that many of them stand for are as iomportant for us in the western world as they are for them

If more of us understood that family should come fiorst and that included your Mothers , Father , Grandparents ..all of the family.

Respect for your elders, look after one another, work as a community , communicate, comprimise...all these things as key to a happy life as is Love. Sorry to be sentimental but I know and I wish more people did that to love and to give and to hlep is more satisfying than a healthy bank balance and a cupboard full of clothes and gadets.

They just don't get it do they ?

If more people did what a change to our society and what an improvement !!

I agree entirely Grumps too many people are bothered about making money and owning the latest things, once upon a time I think Western life wasn't so different in values than themselves.

But now many don't care about anything but themselves and it's not just teenagers etc it's the 30+ people who don't care what their children are doing.

Only last week kids were hiding behind a fence shouting "your fat and smell" to a neighbor of ours that is 75yrs old, I sort of knew the girl in question and shouted to her that it was hardly very nice and she continued hiding behind a fence while doing it.

Their way of life seems very appealing and I'm envious, though it obviously far from being an easy life they work together as a family and community.

Something that is lacking in recent times - their way is a bit like eat, drink and be merry; our way is eat drink, make money, be vain , greedy and countless other things.

I would love to experience something like this though many things seem strange to me I am generally able to understand why they do the things they do and can view it from their perspective.

This week was much better Dionne Braham went to stay with the Maasai tribe in Tanzania who as a tribe welcomed her into their community.

Dionne a 33yr old teacher who still lives with her mother seemed to really enjoy her time with the people and I think she found what she was looking for, one thing being whether she wanted children or not.

I was a little sad to see circumcision was performed on both sexes though it is their belief I find it hard to accept when their reasoning for a female to have this procedure done is that they won't be able to have children other wise.

Yes you can! I want to scream, what niggles me about it is it can be done anywhere from birth to age 14 and the pain must be unbearable, the lady who conducted the surgery said brave girls handle the pain, but those who are scared and scream are cowards and have to be pinned down.
