    Default Recommended Screen Height

    Hi,

Just a quick question on how high a TV (42") should be in relation to the viewers eyes (I assume that's the best reference point?). Level, bit below, bit above, quite a lot above?

    Thanks

I would say the best height would be so the average person sitting on the average chair in the room has the TV screens centre at eye level

So lets say the average man is 5"9" in the UK and the average woman is say 5'5" that would give an average medium of five feet seven inches

So you take a five foot seven inch tall person and sit them on the average chair in the room and see when the screen centre is directly in view of the person as they hold their head straight looking forward in the most used position in the chair.

Five feet seven is 170.18 centimetres
So wherever the screen centre is in relation to a person sat down would be the ideal for a UK answer.

The answer may differ where you are depending upon the average height medium between men and women of that area (or in your own household where the average may differ from the national average)

It is actually possible to cause people to slouch in the chair in order to adjust their sitting position so their eye level is as I said above. The same the other making people sit up (and forward even though the edge of the seat music or action is not doing this) rather than slouch
