Question Why are there so many cookery programs on TV

I love Cookery programmes, but how come there are so many now ?

I seems that whenever I turn on my TV there is another, do the producers think that we are all useless cooks in Britain?

And what do think of Delia ?

All of us grew up learning to cook with her books, I bet most households in the land has at least one of her cookbooks and now with her new show, she is telling us to use frozen potato and tinned meat ???

I understand the need for speed , but I think she has taken it one step to far ?

    Interesting thoughts

I like Heston Blumenthal's methods to some extent

His restuarant in High Wyombe The Fat Duck is in the town I was born in.

There are many interesting things in High Wycombe Bucks!

As for Delia hmm not sure I think she may have got a lot of her things from Mrs Beatons

Delia probably did, but the beauty of her was that she was so precise that anyone could learn how to do it and as long as you followed her instrustions it always came out exactly as she said it would.

But I didnt like this new series, much preferred Nigella Express, again the same idea, but much better recipes.

Then of course there it Great British Menu, Ready Steady Cook, Gordon Ramsey on every channel ( gorgeous though he is !) Rick Stein, Jamie Oliver need I go on ...
Well if the whole of the British Isles are not good cooks now , I dont know when they ever will be !

I find Saturday the worst all morning these cookery shows are on, I'm not a fan of any in particular as they are always using ingredients I don't have and if I bought them I'd probably never use them again.

Most likely be a waste of time also because MrFlicks is so picky I think it's funny he likes that Heston Blumenthal while I find him ridiculous I understand him wanting to create perfection but for an everyday family he's out of the question his chips take a day before hand to prepare and cooking 3x I recall.

Nigella is hilarious she really lays it on thick trying to be sexy while cooking and I LMAO when she goes for a midnight feast from the fridge if anyone ate some of the stuff she cooks you'd soon be buying larger trousers.

Ramsay is also funny I loved his Kitchen Nightmares US and how he gets so wound up, oh and when he's cooking how he says .......... SEASON, STIR, BAKE AND DONE!!!!

Yeah that's exactly how Ramsey is, got it to a tee !
I cant beleive either that Nigella eats that much , I am big but I don't eat that much and if I did I wouldn't be able to stand, that brings us to another story, did you see those HUGE people in the TV programme about very large people !

Funnily enough it was the saturday morning programme that made me start this thread !

We were obviously thinking along the same lines Grump - Saturday being the worst for it.

The rest of this thread has now been started in a new thread because it had gone completely off topic and was deserving enough to do so

Watching people cooking is just p0rn for the taste buds.

I doubt that many people really try to cook the stuff they see on TV, but perhaps it makes the viewers fastfood somehow taste better when they watch it.

What is with home redecoration series?

A similar phenomenon are all those DIY series about redecorating the house with fancy designs and homemade furnitures. I am not sure how many people really take ideas from this, but it seems to give them a good feeling to plan something even though they often never realise it. It may also be a kind of advertisement to sell more furnitures. Silly is only that in many series the renovated apartment looks afterwards worse than before. (Who e.g. needs in the bathroom a tiny square "design" washbasin bowl where all the water spills over due to they are so awkward to use?!)

    LOL

    You are not wrong CyberYogi

Sixty Minute Make Over with Claire Sweeney is a laugh and a half. Talk about making a balls up of peoples houses.

Not sure you get that program over there in Germany CyberYogi? So unsure if you know the show I am referring to? But I know exactly what you mean!

Ooh are we going to be in trouble with MissTVWorlds for going of topic?

Is that one of those home redecoration series? (I guess every country has its own set of series because furniture styles differ among countries, but their general principle is certainly the same.)

Yes it is off topic but I think we can soon get back on track once this one is cleared up, Cyberyogi it is indeed a home redecoration series but it is a big joke because they have 60minutes to do at least three rooms that means new carpet, painting or wall papering plus new furniture which is always clearly advertised where it came from.

Not to mention the presenter is very annoying even more so with her stop watch and whistle which she blows at tea break half way through and again when the time is up whether they have finished painting or not as you can imadgine it isnt quality work!
