Betty's hotpot was recently put into jeopardy when it was announced that Betty played by Betty Driver (89) was leaving the show to put her feet up but ITV have confirmed that the long serving barmaid is staying and has no plans to leave.

ITV press office said "Betty is a much-loved character and actress and she fully intends to be part of the the show's 50th year celebrations. Yesterday she spoke with the producer and indicated she plans to remain with the show."

Betty can't put her feet up !!!!

She needs parts for the next 25 years so she can be there for Corries 75th anniversary celebrations when she is like 124 or so and commands her own fees like never b4. (I bet Bet has some Grandchildren she would like to leave some things to!)

They can't write her out and make her retire if she doesn't want to IMHO as the girl is an institution and making her stop is tantamount to the equivalent of sentencing her to death.

This may not apply to some but Betty needs a break and I don't mean a late life holiday as the girl is obviously a happy workhorse and her break in that context will be in the biblical sense.

People and the press should leave her be as should the writers.

If, after all Betty's time served they don't just write in her ultimate demise as a person in correlation with her real life in to the show I for one will be sorely disappointed!

Sadly Betty Driver died over the weekend in hospital, the hotpot could continue being served or not either way could be seen as a tribute to her!
